Chapter 212 - 209: Unable to Let Go
Clara Grant had said her feelings for Seth Quinn were complicated, but Sarah Shelby thought it was actually quite simple. ’In reality, Clara’s probably already started to accept him,’ Sarah thought. ’She’s just too close to the situation to see it clearly.’
After a moment’s thought, Sarah asked, "So, how do you feel about Miles Quinn now?"
"My feelings for Miles are... also pretty complicated." Clara didn’t hide her true thoughts from her best friend, who had witnessed her three-year-long unrequited love.
"Lately, I’ve noticed my crush on him seems to be fading. Maybe it’s because I’m constantly reminding myself that I’m his sister-in-law, or maybe there’s another reason."
"You silly girl, what other reason could there be? They always say the best way to get over an old flame is to start a new one. The reason you’re starting to let go of Miles Quinn is because you’ve already accepted Seth Quinn in your heart. Or at least, you’re in the process of accepting him," Sarah analyzed.
"Honestly, I think Seth is a great guy, and he’s so good to you. I really believe he’s a better match for you than Miles. So, I think you should completely let go of Miles and embrace your life with Seth.
"A man like Seth might seem cold to women, but once he falls for someone, he’s incredibly devoted. Marrying him, you’ve really hit the jackpot. So, Clara, you have to hold on to him tight and don’t let any other woman snatch him away."
’She’d recently heard that Autumn Shelby was thinking of coming back. What if Autumn remembered how good Seth was and decided she wanted to snatch him back?’
’Even though Clara and Seth were married, there was no guarantee Autumn wouldn’t pull some stunt and make a huge mess of everything.’
’She couldn’t say any of this to Clara directly, but she felt she should at least give her a subtle warning.’
Clara gave a wry smile. She wanted to let go of Miles completely, too. After all, there was no future for them anymore.
But she just couldn’t get over it.
No, it wasn’t that she couldn’t get over Miles as a person. Rather, she couldn’t get over what happened that one night a year ago.
She couldn’t get over how Miles had kissed her that night, only to act as if it never happened, never saying a single word about it afterward.
In her mind, Miles wasn’t the type of person to casually take advantage of someone. That’s why she’d always believed he must have liked her to have kissed her so passionately.
Sarah knew Clara very well; one look at her friend’s face and she knew what she was thinking.
"Clara, if you really can’t get over what happened a year ago, then just go and ask him directly."
Clara gently shook her head. Sarah had urged her many times before to go ask Miles for a clear answer. But even back then, when their relationship wasn’t so awkward, she still hadn’t had the courage to ask him.
’So now, as his sister-in-law, she was supposed to go ask him why he’d kissed her and touched her back then? Why kiss her and touch her, only to remain completely silent, not breathing a single word about it?’
’She had even less courage now, and was far too embarrassed to ask.’
"Sigh, well, just let it be then. Things will work themselves out eventually, and it’s the same with feelings. Overthinking it every day is just draining. It’s better not to dwell on it."
She had invited Clara out to have a good time, not to make her sad. Sarah waved her hand dismissively, but inwardly she sighed. ’Ugh, relationships are so much trouble. I want no part of them.’
They had mostly finished their conversation when Seth returned. Sarah had wanted to chat with Clara a little longer, but with Seth there, and considering her mother had strictly warned her not to stay out too late, the three of them only sat for a little while before leaving.
