A Night of Desire

Chapter 228 - 225: It Was Just a Transaction

Chapter 228 - 225: It Was Just a Transaction

Seth Quinn held the pose for another moment before finally letting her go to answer the phone.

The call was short. Before Clara Grant had even finished straightening her clothes, he was back. He shot her an expressionless glance. He had intended to leave immediately, but instead, he said coldly, "Don’t go anywhere. Wait for me to get back."

Clara Grant froze. ’He’s going out?’

In the moment she was dazed, Seth Quinn had already reached the door. Clara Grant called out anxiously to his retreating back, "Where are you going?"

Seth Quinn paused but didn’t answer. Without turning back, he added, "You’d better stay put right here and wait for me. Otherwise, I can’t guarantee what I’ll do."

His voice was quiet, but it was dripping with menace.

Without waiting for Clara Grant to react, he opened the door and left.

The door SLAMMED shut behind him.

Clara Grant stared at the door for a long time before she slowly turned and walked into the living room, sinking limply onto the sofa.

Her lips, which he had ravaged, still ached. Clara Grant reached out a finger and touched them gently.

The pain wasn’t sharp, but it was a deeply unpleasant sensation.

’Have we completely fallen out again?’ she wondered. Remembering his brutal actions and cold expression just now, it felt as if all the gentle affection and doting care he’d shown from yesterday up until they left the hospital had been nothing but a dream.

For the past day and a half, they had been getting along so well, so harmoniously. Yet, in the blink of an eye, everything had done a complete one-eighty.

Before he’d called her out on her feelings for Miles, she couldn’t remember doing anything to make him angry. All she wanted was to go back to the film set. What was so wrong with that? And yet he’d actually suspected that her rush to get back was because she couldn’t stop thinking about Miles!

’It just goes to show, the man is not only suspicious by nature, but also volatile and unpredictable!’

...

While Clara Grant was nursing her wounded heart upstairs, Seth Quinn, sitting in his car downstairs, was in no better a mood.

The call had been from Chase Childs; an urgent matter at the company required his attention. But after getting into the car, he didn’t hurry to start the engine. Instead, he lit a cigarette.

He wasn’t a heavy smoker, but he was usually quite adept at it. Today, however, he choked on the very first drag, coughing so hard that tears welled up in his eyes.

He coughed for a long while before it finally subsided. He raised a hand to his eyes, but his gaze accidentally fell upon the box of cold medicine he had tossed into the storage compartment.

His hand froze in mid-air, then changed course. He reached into the compartment and picked up the box of cold medicine.

’Does she actually care about me?’ he thought. ’If she didn’t, why would she buy me cold medicine? Even if she just picked it up on the way, it still proves she was thinking of me, right?’

In truth, he wasn’t angry that she liked Miles. After all, she had known Miles first. It was hardly surprising for a woman in her twenties to have a crush on someone.

So, even though knowing she liked Miles made him uncomfortable, he could understand it.

What infuriated him was that she was his wife, yet she never seemed to even consider accepting that role. It was as if she couldn’t wait to draw a line in the sand between them over every little thing.

She was even fixated on paying him back as soon as possible for the tiny bit of his money she’d spent!

’Is she that desperate to settle all accounts with me?’

’But of course. Their relationship was just a transaction from the start. She married him in exchange for what she wanted.’

’And he was the one who had proposed the deal in the first place. She was just playing by the rules of the game. What right did he have to be angry with her?’
