Chapter 254 - 251: You Still Think You’re Seth Quinn’s Prospective Mother-in-Law

"I’m not here today to see how comfortable you are, Miss Shelby. I’ll get straight to the point. I came to ask you about that friend of yours... Clara. What is she up to now?"

Sarah Shelby was a little taken aback. "Clara? Ma’am, you’re such a busy woman. Why would you have time to care what my friend is doing?"

"I’m asking you a question!" Yvette Zimmerman’s face was a mask of rage and arrogance. "Cherie Rhodes, look at this fine daughter you’ve raised! Is this how you taught her to speak to her elders?"

"Sarah!" Cherie Rhodes had no choice but to say her name in a sharp, warning tone.

Sarah Shelby said nothing.

’For her mother’s sake, she had to hold her tongue.’

"She’s filming."

"Filming what?" Yvette Zimmerman asked tensely, involuntarily sitting up straighter.

"A Lifetime of Splendor."

Yvette Zimmerman’s voice immediately shot up. "See? See? I knew it."

Everyone knew *A Lifetime of Splendor* was funded and produced by Seth Quinn’s company, Aegis. And here was Clara Grant, starring in his movie and riding in his car. She had probably even stayed at his apartment last night.

Sarah Shelby was a little confused. She turned to look at her mother, but with Yvette Zimmerman present, Cherie Rhodes couldn’t very well speak up, let alone give her a hint. She simply lowered her gaze and pretended not to see.

Getting no answer from her mother, Sarah Shelby turned back to Yvette Zimmerman and asked, "Knew what?"

’Clara is filming *A Lifetime of Splendor*, so why is she so worked up? Anyone who didn’t know better would think Clara stole a role from her...’

But before the thought could even fully form, a sudden realization hit her. She didn’t have time to dwell on it before Yvette Zimmerman spoke again. "Let me ask you, is that Clara person getting close to Seth Quinn?"

’So that’s it!’

’But Clara and Seth Quinn are keeping their relationship a secret. How could she possibly know?’

"Getting close to Seth Quinn? What are you talking about? Of course not." ’No matter how she found out,’ Sarah thought, ’I have to cover for Clara. If she knew the truth, she’d immediately call Autumn Shelby back to ruin everything.’

"Hmph. Don’t even think you can fool me. I saw it with my own two eyes—she came out of Seth Quinn’s apartment and got into his car. And you still say they’re not close?"

"I wouldn’t know about that. You were probably mistaken."

Before the nonchalant words had even left Sarah Shelby’s mouth, Yvette Zimmerman was so furious she nearly shot out of her seat. "You don’t know? She’s your best friend, how could you not know? I was mistaken? There is absolutely no way I was mistaken! Stop trying to lie to me. Tell me right now, what is going on between them?"

Sarah Shelby finally snapped. "I told you, I don’t know! And besides, what business is their relationship of yours? Do you really think you have any say in the matter?

Do you still think you’re Seth Quinn’s future mother-in-law? He broke off the engagement himself a long time ago. Wake up! Seth Quinn is single, and Clara is single. Even if they were together, it would be perfectly natural!"

"You!" Yvette Zimmerman was so furious she could barely breathe. She pointed a trembling finger at Sarah Shelby, sputtering for a moment before she could finally form the words.

"Sarah Shelby, I was kind enough to allow you and your mother into the Shelby Family. Your mother gets to live here comfortably, and you get to play the part of a young miss. And now you dare to side with an outsider instead of helping your own sister? Is this how you repay my kindness?"

"Hmph!" Sarah Shelby sneered. "Comfortably? Mrs. Shelby, it’s one thing for outsiders to be in the dark, but there’s no need for us to be so hypocritical, is there? You may have agreed to let my mother live in the Shelby home, but how have you treated her? Sometimes she’s treated worse than a servant. Is that what you call ’living comfortably’?"
