Chapter 2773 - 2774: Down on Our Luck
Chapter 2773 - 2774: Down on Our Luck
Gao Zhou was momentarily speechless, rendered silent.
Finally, it was Bai Ruozhu who went over and pinched Jiang Yichun, saying, "Is that how you talk? Your father raised you at least until you were twelve."
"Alright, I suppose he did raise me," Jiang Yichun replied, a bit disgruntled.
The group discussed the condition of the Undersea Palace, and only then did everyone understand the thrilling aspect of it. However, no one mentioned the identity of the ancestor of the Merfolk, nor her story with Xuan Gui, only that she too was a merfolk trapped inside for many years.
Chushuang was still puzzled, saying, "Who hates merfolk so much but uses such a clumsy means to trap them here? The merfolk are all on Merfolk Island, hardly anyone would accidentally end up here."
Afraid of upsetting the ancestor of the Merfolk, Bai Ruozhu quickly said, "Who knows, anyway, everyone’s okay and that’s what matters."
Chushuang remained uneasy, even suspecting the ancestor of the Merfolk, whispering to Bai Ruozhu, "I’ve never seen her before, and if she’s been trapped in the palace all this time, how did she survive past thirty?"
"Maybe the palace isolated her from the curse?" Bai Ruozhu tugged at her, whispering, "Mom, I’ll explain it to you later."
Soon, the night fell; having stayed inside for a night and nearly a day, everyone was exhausted, so they each returned to their rooms to rest.
Bai Ruozhu arranged accommodations for the ancestor of the Merfolk, and then went with Chushuang and Gao Deng to discuss the details.
By the time she finished explaining, she was so exhausted that she nearly leaned on Jiang Yichun on the way back to her room.
"Is there anything you haven’t told me yet?" Jiang Yichun asked.
Bai Ruozhu then recounted the events from her dream, and the story was so long that Jiang Yichun fell asleep halfway through. She couldn’t help but giggle as she gently stroked his chest. His heart nearly broke today; it really scared her.
Suddenly, a low sobbing sound drifted into her ears; who could be crying at such a late hour?
She suddenly remembered, it was Yaxi from the Golden Wings Clan.
She got up, put on her outer shirt, and quietly slipped out.
"Are you going to keep crying? How can anyone get any sleep?" she asked directly upon pushing open the door.
Yaxi nearly jumped up, clearly startled and skittish.
"Bei Gui went up to sleep, and I’m scared being alone," he stammered.
"How did you manage all those years before? Weren’t you alone?" Bai Ruozhu asked.
Yaxi was a bit embarrassed, "So I couldn’t help crying every night."
Well, fear might be a secondary issue; crying at night was clearly a habit for him, Bai Ruozhu thought.
"But you should learn to overcome it; crying all the time isn’t good. Apart from disturbing others, you’ve to be strong yourself," Bai Ruozhu said.
"I... it’s my bad luck that trapped you all underwater for so long," he cried again, "It’s normal for everyone to hate me."
Bai Ruozhu’s mouth twitched, "I’m advising you, not hating you. We ran into danger by our own hands; it has nothing to do with you, or how would we have returned safely?"
Right as she finished speaking, there was a loud thud; the boat hit something!
She looked at Yaxi in shock; was he a jinx, or was it just a coincidence?
Yaxi cried again, "It must be me, I’m causing harm to you all. I can’t stay on the boat."
In his emotional frenzy, he tried to run out, but Bai Ruozhu couldn’t let him run amok. This person could get shot out of the sky, who knows what would happen if he ran outside.
So she simply knocked him out and dragged him back to bed, administering some calming medicine.
She arrived on the deck, asking, "What happened?"
Old Ding was helped up, "Master Bai, it seems like a hidden reef. It’s unknown when more reefs appeared here. I’ve already sent people to check the situation under the boat."
Soon, others hurried up, with red eyes; everyone was just too exhausted.
"You should go to sleep; it’s nothing serious," Bai Ruozhu said.
"You should quickly go rest too, and let the boat pause for the night," Gao Zhou suggested.
Bai Ruozhu nodded, "That sounds good."
She was tired too, returned to her room to sleep, and Jiang Yichun, besides being exhausted, had suffered some damage to his heart meridian; even with such noise, he didn’t wake up.
Lying beside him, she lightly embraced his waist, and soon fell deep asleep.
When she opened her eyes again, it was already noon the next day; Jiang Yichun was nowhere in sight. She hurried to the deck, saw him turn around and smile at her, revealing eight gleaming white teeth.
His smile looked so nice; he seldom smiled before, much better now.
"I told you, you won’t believe it—just one night and complications arise again." Jiang Yichun laughed heartily as he spoke.
"Why do I feel you’re gloating even though it’s our boat?" Bai Ruozhu glared at him.
Jiang Yichun said, "Hear me out—last night, sea birds attacked Bei Gui and the others. They’re from the Golden Wings Clan, close to birds, yet birds attacked them for the first time."
"No one was hurt, right?" Bai Ruozhu couldn’t help but laugh too.
"No, just scraped a bit, patched up wounds, got a little bird droppings on them," Jiang Yichun said.
"What else?" Bai Ruozhu was already mentally prepared; traditionally, they hadn’t been as unlucky as they’ve been lately, except for their patience. Others might have kicked Yaxi off ages ago.
"Yaxi had food poisoning, not seasickness. My father examined him and said he ate diseased fish." Jiang Yichun shook his head, "Among so many dining together, he alone eats diseased fish; truly an unusual streak of bad luck."
"Where is he now?" Bai Ruozhu asked.
"Took medicine, then went back to sleep," Jiang Yichun shook his head.
Bai Ruozhu scratched her head, "Something doesn’t feel right; his bad luck’s way over the top—how can someone be this unlucky and affect those around him? I don’t believe he’s naturally like this; before he grew wings, he wasn’t like this."
"Do you think it’s artificial?" Jiang Yichun asked, seeing her nod, "I think it’s artificial too. Wait for the astrologer and Ning Yu to wake up and help take a look."
The astrologer and Ning Yu were worn out, waking even later than Bai Ruozhu.
Bai Ruozhu reached out and touched where his heart was, "No discomfort?"
"I’m fine, don’t worry." He held her hand, letting her rest it over his chest, to feel his heartbeat.
Tang Feng came up on deck just in time to see this; hastily covered his eyes, "Oh dear, right as I woke, hit by puppy love; single people can’t stand it."
Bai Ruozhu shot him a glance, remembering about Yaxi.
"Tell the astrologer and my senior brother to take a look at Yaxi; I’m off to play with Yaxi," Bai Ruozhu said before darting off into the ship cabin.
Tang Feng’s expression turned a tad unnatural; he had consented to Bai Ruozhu informing Yaxi about his business, yet now he felt nervous.
How will she react? A conservative Fusang girl probably couldn’t handle it, right?
