Chapter 415 - 287: Control and Disorder
Chapter 415 - 287: Control and Disorder
Her dress was in disarray, revealing a portion of her collarbone and skin. Light and heavy bruises and red marks were scattered across her body, a testament to their passion.
Through the transparent floor-to-ceiling window, she saw a bewitching purple mark over the girl’s heart.
He was wrong.
She still loved him.
An Jin placed a hand on the window and closed her eyes. She never intended to abandon Ze Sheng after choosing Mi Yin and the others.
The reason she hadn’t spoken then was that she had just received two sets of memories, along with the entangled emotions of two lifetimes. Her brain, overloaded in such a short time, couldn’t choose between them.
Even now, she couldn’t make a decision she was satisfied with.
But she’d faintly heard the words "I don’t have time left." Was it a hallucination before she passed out? Or was it Ze Sheng’s soft whisper?
’What does that mean?’
An Jin couldn’t make heads or tails of it.
In the end, she went back.
Ling Hong had been waiting for her at the city gate for three days. There had been no sign of her at all. He strongly suspected that fellow Ze Sheng had imprisoned Jin’er. If Xi hadn’t insisted on holding him back, he would have forced his way in long ago.
Dawn was just breaking, and the city gate guards hadn’t even started their shifts yet. Ling Hong had remained at the gate for three days and three nights.
He caught sight of a silvery-white figure flying toward him in the distance, bathed in moonlight. His eyes instantly cleared. He shot up from the ground with a WHOOSH and took two quick steps forward. "Jin’er?"
She landed steadily in his arms. Noticing the dark circles under his eyes, she lovingly stroked them with her slender, soft fingers. "You’ve been waiting for me this whole time?"
He gave a low "mhm," his aura somewhat listless.
An Jin guessed he had smelled Ze Sheng’s strong scent on her. The words she was about to say caught in her throat. Unsure how to explain, she simply said, "Take me back. I’m tired. I want to rest."
He held her in his arms and carried her back to the castle.
However, she couldn’t sleep all night, tossing and turning. An unsettling thought seemed to throb wildly in her heart, reminding her that the crisis was not over.
"System?"
After a series of piercing electronic waves, the system’s voice finally sounded.
[Host, you’re finally back! Boo-hoo, I was dormant for so, so long. I almost thought I’d never wake up.] It sounded both surprised and delighted, on the verge of tears.
"Dormant?"
Tongzi nodded. [I’m directly bound to your soul. When your soul was incomplete, I also fell into dormancy. I only just woke up.]
"Repeat the final mission objectives for me."
[Okay!] The newly awakened system quickly got to work. After checking its data, it dutifully reported, [Congratulations, Host! You have completed all the foundational work for the final mission objective. The last condition is to survive in this Beast World for 20 years!]
[Once all mission objectives are complete, you can return to the 23rd century, and you’ll receive one chance at rebirth!]
[It is now the 16th year. There are only 4 years left! Please keep up the good work!]
"Four years..." An Jin lowered her head, her gaze fixed on empty space. "According to what you said before," she murmured, "a great war will break out in this world in the future, causing this plane to collapse. Is that war four years away?"
[This timeframe was calculated by the main god system. It predicts that a certain event has a high probability of occurring at that point in time, but it’s not entirely accurate. After all, fate can change in big or small ways with every choice made by an important individual, eventually deviating from the main track.]
She nodded. "I understand." Then she closed the system interface, leaned her head back against the wooden chair, and fell deep into thought.
’Something’s wrong. Something’s wrong.’ An Jin’s eyes suddenly flew open in the darkness, the unease in her heart growing stronger.
’Where did Mi Yin go?’
It had been almost a week since she’d returned. Given his personality, there was no way he’d still be wandering around outside.
’Could it be that he can’t sense me because the mate mark disappeared?’
She recalled her first encounter with him through "Wamiya’s" memories. There had been someone else with Mi Yin—a handsome, black-haired youth.
’—Qi Yuan?!’
’The little villain who was supposed to destroy the world... Right, ten years have passed. He’s already grown up. The time he’s fated to start the war is drawing closer.’
Although she wasn’t sure if the plot had gone off the rails, or how far it had deviated if it had, she had a feeling war was coming.
’Right, the Unicorn King Beast clan is skilled in prophecy and Divination. Only after retrieving my Soul blood have I been able to feel this unease so vividly.’
’Maybe it’s not a delusion. The great war really is about to begin.’
And what Ze Sheng had said that night—
’I don’t have time left.’
An Jin awoke with a start in the middle of the night, drenched in a cold sweat. She quickly threw on her clothes, her frantic movements waking Ling Hong and Xi.
Seeing her grim expression, the two of them didn’t ask any questions and simply followed her out of the city.
...
「Meanwhile, in Absurd City.」
A black fog had consumed the chaotic city.
Within the boundless black fog, countless ghastly roars and grotesque faces intertwined. It shamelessly devoured the Beastmen running chaotically through the streets, and the once-black smoke gradually became tinged with the color of blood.
「In the palace.」
"It wasn’t a waste, letting you devour so many Demon Seeds." The black-haired youth’s body was already half-shrouded in mist. His long, narrow, dark eyes were somewhat lifeless as he looked down at the Snake Beast collapsed on the ground. "You are the finest King Rank Demon Seed I have painstakingly cultivated."
The snake-tailed man’s originally scarlet pupils had turned pitch-black, leaving not even a trace of white. His eyes were nothing but darkness, as if covered by a thick fog.
The black smoke completely muddled his senses of sight and hearing.
If An Jin had been present, she would have immediately recognized the power mixed within this black smoke. It was very familiar.
Years ago, her body had been controlled by the "person" within this black smoke. She had hidden by Ze Sheng’s side for years in the most trusted position, only to stab him in the end.
This black smoke was the true mastermind!
By the time Ze Sheng rushed over, he discovered that both Qi Yuan and Mi Yin were under control. No, the entire city was under control. Next would be the entire continent!
This black fog intended to control the entire continent!
"Orderless..." Ze Sheng slowly uttered the name. This was a secret known only to the successive generations of the Beast God High Priest—the name of a powerful Exotic Beast that had nearly overthrown the entire continent tens of millions of years ago by its own power.
At the same time, *it* was the true King of the Demon Beasts. The origin of the Demon Beasts was unknown, but it was Orderless that had led their rampant invasion of the continent.
In this world, only their pure-blooded Unicorn King Beast clan possessed the Purification Power bestowed by the Beast God, which could truly and effectively counter the Demonic Qi.
If the Unicorn King Beast clan were to be wiped out, the Demon Beasts would be unstoppable.
The target of Orderless had, from the very beginning, only ever been him and Wamiya!
