Chapter 399 - 398: Kamel’s Testing Grounds
Chapter 399 - 398: Kamel’s Testing Grounds
Rainbow Engine Group? Overloaded Capacitor?
Two words he had never heard before entered his ears, and the new terms, seemingly cobbled together from existing nouns, left Bishop Leimont momentarily stunned. Yet, even without understanding what the energy being meant, he felt the increasing surge of magic power in the air, sensing the danger. Driven by a sense of crisis, he immediately raised his hand without hesitation, summoning the power of Holy Light before him to form an indestructible barrier of light. Then he forcefully swung down the Bishop’s Scepter in his other hand: "Knights! Eradicate evil!"
"Eradicate evil!" The twelve Church Knights shouted in unison with fervor, raising their blazing longswords high. The surging power of Holy Light extended behind them, flying together with their cloaks embroidered with sacred maxims. Then, these brave and devout Holy Light Knights charged towards the wall in front of them—
Their speed increased, and their momentum soared with the acceleration of the group. The previously scattered Holy Light Energy gradually resonated during the knights’ charge, and thanks to each person’s devout faith, the Holy Light began to condense into the shape of a giant spear, pointing forward in the direction of the knights’ charge. At the tip of this giant spear, the air twisted from the heat, and chaotic magic power constantly stirred layers of illusory firelight. Even standing atop the tall city wall, Kamel could feel the terrifying power contained within that spear of light—if not countered, it was enough to pierce the wall!
This is the power that powerful Transcendents can exert on the battlefield, but none of this was beyond Kamel’s calculations.
Behind Kamel, on the broad pathway of the South City Wall, an entire row of peculiarly shaped devices was operating at full force.
Those were complex metal units in the shape of hexagonal prisms, no more than half a meter high, mounted on similar hexagonal metal bases. The bases were covered with complex magical symbols, and the prisms themselves were made from interconnected layers of rune triggers and steel supports. They were evidently some form of unfinished product. The exposed rune triggers and framework indicated their lack of completion, yet there was a peculiar beauty to this incomplete product—increasing exposure to the magical industry in Cecil had made Kamel grow increasingly fond of this "mechanical feel" with its rugged lines amid neatness.
These hexagonal prism devices that were neatly arranged on the city walls were none other than an enlarged version of the "Amplifiers" created by Rebecca—their prototype was the belt that could concentrate magic web energy, and their sibling products were now used in various models of the Magic Crystal Railguns.
The charging knights had already crossed the midfield, and the Holy Light spear they had gathered was scorching the land before the South City Wall. Overflowing Holy Light flowed like liquid with substance, coursing across the cracked and dried land. The twelve knights charged like they were in a giant wave formed by light. Their spirits were invigorated by fervent emotion, and their minds gradually synchronized. They began to chant high praise to the God of Holy Light from the Holy Light Scriptures. Amid the sacred-sounding hymns, Kamel raised his arms, shimmering with arcane magic.
The technical personnel standing by next to the hexagonal prism devices immediately stepped forward, activating all the test devices. The magical symbols on the surface of these prisms instantly brightened, and behind the city wall, along with the Magic Obelisks lighting up, giant magic capacitors, and sections of the city floor and walls interlaced with the magic web began to illuminate!
The entire magic web system in the southern district instantly entered full-power operation. On every street, every plaza, one Magic Obelisk after another began to emit a low humming. Even the magic web buried underground appeared due to the magic resonance in the air. From an aerial perspective, the whole South City District seemed shrouded under a glowing magic grid, with all magic flows converging on the South City Wall!
The magic resonance reached its peak, and the neatly arranged several amplifiers on the city wall simultaneously burst out blinding electric light. Arcs of arcane lightning pierced through the air, forming arc-shaped energy connections, with Kamel, who had already floated high into the sky, as the focal point of the energy.
The energy body of this ancient Master Mage had received unprecedented reinforcement, the overwhelming arcane energy even expanding his form to nearly twice its size. The rune armor plates that held his body in shape contracted into his body. Feeling the pure magic surging through him, Kamel spread his arms wide: "Energy... unprecedentedly strong..."
On the city wall, Rebecca, clutching a clipboard and furiously taking notes, looked up and shouted loudly at Kamel, who was already floating in the high sky (in charge mode): "Stop showing off! The enemy is already upon us!"
Kamel looked down and saw the twelve knights had already reached the wall’s base. In their frenzy, they seemed to completely ignore the changes on the wall, still chanting loudly from the Holy Light Scriptures—Kamel shook his head and casually pointed towards the tip of the Holy Light spear.
An arcane bullet, the most basic of offensive spells, swiftly formed, whistling as it plummeted to the ground.
The arcane bullet is one of the most basic offensive magics, generally coming in two sizes. The first type has a diameter of several inches, commonly seen outside the Cecil region, while the second type measures seventeen meters in diameter.
It had just appeared on the South City Wall of Cecil.
Since the last aberration siege, the widely-experienced Cecil Clan witnessed for the second time a "basic spell" larger than the city gate, just like all Cecil’s unique creations, it was—
Power! Ful! And! Mighty!!
An arcane bullet larger than the city gate crashed into the forefront of the Holy Light surge, and the violent chaotic magic instantly tore apart this powerful Divine Art that required twelve Knights to cast together, proving the theory that even basic spells can destroy heaven and earth as long as enough power is exerted. In a ground-shaking explosion, a gigantic mushroom cloud rose, along with twelve Church Knights with dim Holy Light and shattered armor.
Bishop Leimont, standing in the rear out of the battle, was in a prolonged state of stupor as he watched the powerful magic creature rampaging on the city wall, feeling the continuously rising energy within it, and couldn’t help mumbling to himself, "What kind of monsters are there in the Cecil Clan..."
The twelve Knights blasted into the sky by the explosion finally landed—though in reality, only nine landed intact. The three at the forefront of the charge were caught in a dual detonation of Holy Light and arcane energy, with more than half their bodies vaporized, leaving only molten armor and some remnants to fall to the ground.
The robust physique of the powerful Supernatural allowed the remaining Knights to survive, but their ethereal and holy mental synchronization state had been forcibly terminated. Awakened from the frenzy of the Holy Light charge, these Knights finally noticed the change in their surroundings, recalling the terrifying attack they had just faced. They raised their heads in horror, looking towards Kamel—who had once again raised his arm, with a vortex of magic power gathering at the end of that phantom energy arm.
Arcs of energy erupted from the Cecil walls, connecting to this fearsome energy creature, whose might at that moment might even surpass that of a Legend!
"Sacred Shield!!"
One of the Knights screamed desperately, forming layers of illusory barriers around him with strong Holy Light, while Bishop Leimont at the back immediately reacted by casting various Holy protective spells upon himself and the Knights.
The next second, an arcane ray nearly half a meter thick swept across the battlefield, leaving a terrible molten trench in its wake and striking the Holy Light barrier jointly released by the Knight and the Bishop, causing the Holy Light Barrier to shatter inch by inch, on the brink of collapse!
Kamel was originally a Master Mage at the Initial Stage of Legend, only having fallen to the powerful Peak level due to long-term sealing and changes in the magic-pervasive environment, yet he remained exceptionally powerful. Supported by the magic web of half the city and the effect of the Amplifier, his destructive power reached some incredible level, beyond what could be explained by conventional "class levels," and this power, completely detached from "class levels" and "skill," was precisely the project Kamel had been diligently researching recently.
The Amplifier on the city wall continued to release bright arcs, and at the foot of the wall, the array of Magic Capacitors providing additional energy for the Amplifier had started to deplete. Mage Technicians from the Magic Guide Technology Research Institute ran between the massive capacitors, constantly removing depleted crystals and inserting new, charged energy crystals into the slots, while Jenni Perot led the technical personnel from the Rune Research Institute, standing beside each critical device, continuously observing changes in the devices, recording the brilliance and extinction of the magic symbols on device surfaces, and various other data.
Receiving a batch of new reports, Jenni Perot quickly summoned an assistant beside her, gave some quick instructions, and this assistant rushed up the city wall to find Rebecca, who was commanding the experimental project above: "Lady! Director Jenni says more capacitor readings are needed! The magic consumption curve is still not perfect!"
Rebecca raised her head, looking toward Kamel, who was cutting the battlefield with an arcane ray: "Master Kamel! We need more data!"
Kamel responded with a thunderous rumble: "That depends on how long these people can hold out!"
Bishop Leimont finally understood, this was never a battle.
He didn’t know how the Cecil Clan achieved this, didn’t understand why a territory founded only last year possessed such strength, nor did he comprehend the kind of forbidden knowledge held by the ancient hero brought back to life, allowing such miracles to be created on this land. But now, none of this mattered to him, he only wanted to end all of this immediately, to end this mistake-ridden plan from the start.
He looked to his side, where the attendant he brought with him, the middle-aged Priest, had already fallen in a previous attack. Now, besides him, only nine fervently zealous Church Knights remained fighting on the battlefield.
This high priest raised his Bishop’s Scepter, slightly interrupting Kamel’s attack with a streak of Holy Light from the heavens, then shouted loudly: "Knights! The time to be loyal to the Lord has come! Those who gain power through desecration will eventually pay for the powers they desecrate!"
Swelling Holy Light spread outward from him as the center, returning strength to every severely injured Knight. Listening to the old Bishop’s loud encouragement, every Church Knight was revitalized by this "field preaching," shouting, screaming, and having all their rationality quickly replaced by the fiercely burning flames of the Holy Light. As the Holy Light consumed every bit of their flesh and bones, these Knights transformed into shining torches, charging fearlessly for one last time towards the city wall.
"Be loyal to the Lord!"
The Knights shouted the only command lingering in their minds, while Bishop Leimont, the one who issued this "only command," activated the Priest’s "Swift Frenzy" skill the moment the Knights charged, turning himself into a blur and rushing towards the Dark Mountain Range.
