Chapter 306: Changing Appearance, Again

None of them had any idea of what to expect when inside that ship. Its destination was unknown, as well as the crew. Damian and the others were inside the dark storage.

"Do you really think this was a good idea?" Damian asked.

The thing that he feared the most was not knowing the level of power the crew had. What if they were more powerful than him? Then they would have a serious problem to face.

But what relaxed him was the fact Elrandir was there. Elrandir was a powerful mage, and his presence would make their life a lot easier.

"There was nothing we could do expect this," Elrandir said, "It’s easier for us to take over the ship than facing those people."

The people sent by the authorities to go after Damian were powerful. He didn’t know if he was capable of fighting against them.

"Let me take a look first. Wait here," Damian said to the others.

It was nighttime yet the ship was leaving. That could only mean they had important things to do, and they couldn’t wait to leave during the morning.

But that also meant it was the perfect time for Damian to go and explore. Only a few crew members were awake to take care of the ship. Most of them were sleeping, and the merchants boarding along were sleeping too.

’I need to take advantage of this to explore the area,’ thought Damian.

The storage was dark and filled with boxes, but Damian managed to find the way out and leave. The first thing he saw was a corridor, and a few oils lamps on the walls, brightening the place.

Damian noticed the doors on each side of the corridor. Those were the rooms were the people boarding the ship were sleeping at. Or at least some of them.

Without much thinking, Damian went inside one of the rooms. He tried his best to make little to no sounds. Once inside, he saw a bed, a small table and drawer, and a person sleeping on a single bed.

The idea he had in mind was to get some information about the ship and where it was going by reading that person’s mind. He got close to the bed and utilized his mind powers to read that person’s mind.

It was easy. The person was a man, a merchant who was not powerful in combat, and had no defenses against mind abilities. Damian easily read the memories of that man, and learned everything he needed about the ship.

The reason it was leaving in a hurry during the night was because of the goods it was carrying. The ship had special items a powerful noble desired, and they had been late to deliver it, therefore they had to leave during the night to make sure they would arrive in time.

As for the items, well, that merchant had no idea what it was, so Damian didn’t know it either. Each merchant was bringing their own stuff to sell. The merchant Damian read the mind was bringing spices to sell to a seclude island for a high price.

But the owner of the ship, the most influential merchant, was the one bringing that stuff the powerful wanted.

Anyway, after reading the mind of that man, Damian had a dilema. He could get the man’s identity by killing him or locking him somewhere. That would mean he would be able to traverse through the ship without many problems.

But what about his friends? He would have to find a way to get them there.

’Maybe I can get all of them to this room? It only has one bed, but it’s spacious enough for them to sleep on the ground. Better than the storage room, I guess,’ thought Damian.

That seemed like the best option, and that’s exactly what Damian did. With the help of his mind powers, he made sure the man wouldn’t be able to move his mouth! The man levitated in front of Damian.

The man opened his eyes and looked at him with terror, yet no matter what he tried to do, he was unable to move. Damian grabbed a cloth from the drawer and placed it on the man’s mouth, ensuring he would never scream.

Then, using his disguise ability, he changed his appearance, becoming the man. When the merchant saw that, he was even more shocked. It was terrifying to see someone take over your identity like that.

After that, Damian tossed the man inside the drawer. He changed his clothes and went back to the storage to find the others.

’With this, they will know I can change my appearance...’ realized Damian.

He wanted to keep that ability a secret, but it was inevitable that he would have to use it in front of them at one point. That was their best chance to succeed in taking over the ship.

When Elena and the others saw him approaching, they were scared. The first thought that came to their mind was that someone had seen them there.

Elrandir was ready to utilize a spell when Damian gestured to them, "It’s me, Damian. I changed my appearance."

They were shocked, all of them. Elrandir was the most surprised because he was already suspecting Damian because of the blood magic, and now changing his appearance? That was too much for him.

"How do you do this?" Elena asked.

"My powers, I guess. Anyway, the room is small but it’s better than being here. Come with me," Damian said.

They didn’t ask too many questions, and just followed him through the corridor, going inside the room Damian had just left. For them, the priority was finding a safe place inside the ship, one that was not dark and cold like the storage.

Once they were all inside the room did Damian talk to them about his ability. Of course, he lied saying that he could only become someone with a similar appearance as his, and that the ability didn’t last forever.

That was bullshit, but there was no way for them to know that, so Damian was okay with the lies.

Anyway, their next step was to take over the ship and go to the location they needed to go, but that was not so easy.
